Hi folks,
I am getting in touch with you specifically as academic supervisors of Cohort 1 students and hence beneficiaries of MINDS CDT (this is arm-twisting time!). During Semester 1 our Cohort 2 students take the MIND6001 module (Impact and Communication Strategies), which covers responsible research and innovation, developing outreach activities, producing briefings on research for policy makers, media, business, as well as academic presentations. Each student is assigned to an existing project to support impact activities. Specifically they produce:
* Three technology briefing papers for the following audiences: (i) policy makers; (ii) senior executives; and (iii) the media
* A plan for an outreach activity related to the case study or some component technology; and
* A report providing an impact assessment of the case study using the Orbit RRI AREA 4P framework.
I am asking for some of your (and your research team’s) time to speak one of our Cohort 2 students about your project (maybe a couple of hours spread over a few weeks in Semester 1), provide some technical papers related to it, etc. They will then do the leg work.
We have 17 Cohort 2 students, and I am 5 projects short of the number I need.
The following people are exempt from this request:
Phil Nelson - as Dean
Christine Evers - is doing loads for the CDT already
Rob Maunder, Gopal Ramchurn, Seb Stein, Geoff Merrett - all helped with this last year
me - I am marking their MIND6001 coursework, and so
Otherwise, I would be really grateful if you could offer an on-going or past research project for a student to work on.
Attached are the introductory slides from MIND6001 to give you more of an idea of what they do.
Thanks,
Tim.
