</o:shapelayout></xml><![endif]--></head><body lang=EN-GB link="#0563C1" vlink="#954F72" style='word-wrap:break-word'><div class=WordSection1><p class=MsoNormal>Dear List Members,<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Since 2011 the GOAL mailing list has been hosted by the Electronics and Computer Science department at Southampton University, for which many thanks to them. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>In September, I posted a message to the list noting that discussions about open access have now become mainstream and the reality is that much of the debate now tends to take place elsewhere, not least on Twitter. I added, however, that I am happy to continue moderating the list if members want it to continue. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Since then (just before Christmas) the list suffered a technical problem that has yet to be fixed and I am told by ECS that they are no longer able to support GOAL – so it is not clear it will ever be fixed. It has been suggested that I look for another venue – e.g., Jisc, which runs a mailing list service. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>What is not clear to me, however, is whether there is still demand for the list.
