<div>The journal "article processing charge" (APC) is not a single model, but rather a group of models gathered together under one term. This is important to note as some of the different models may offer avenues worthy of exploration for open access journals
seeking the means to make ends meet.</div>

<div>One model that we noted in preparing the OA APC 2016 dataset (to be released shortly) is what we are calling the conference proceedings / journal model. There has always been overlap between journals and conferences. Thanks to Victoria Volkanova for spotting
a few journals based in Eastern Europe for which the "APC" consists of a conference registration fee. </div>
