<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Launched today, the e-collection provides access to some 3,000 Nordic publications free to download.

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">For example, the 627-page scientific work

Nordic Nutrition Recommendations</a>, the cornerstone of dietary guidelines in the Nordic countries, is due out tomorrow in book form but is already available in the new e-collection as a free download.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Open Access<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">The new platform for the e-collection has been developed by Uppsala University Library and is based on Open Source software. It complements the Open Access mandate
that the NCM has bestowed upon its Secretary General, Dagfinn Høybråten.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif""><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">The mandate includes a requirement that all publications published and funded by the NCM’s Secretariat and institutions will in future be Open Access, i.e. as
a minimum available as free downloads.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">This step has been taken to improve access to the many hundreds of publications that the NCM publishes every year, and to send a clear signal to the world that
we in the Nordic Region support democratic principles such as transparency and equal access for all, in deeds as well as in words.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
