One important notion to add is the issue of the centre/periphery divide. On the surface, the "universality" of science seems to deny this divide, but universality only applies to concepts, theories, and methods; it does not apply to problem choice, and, of course, the dissemination of scientific knowledge is anything but equal: some researchers are a lot more equal than others, to use a well-known phrase from Orwell.<BR>
<BR>
Related to this issue is the question of power within science: how does it play out? To whose advantage? Who holds the trump cards? Etc.<BR>
<BR>
All these concerns could fall under "Process of scholarly communication", of course, but they are sufficiently crucial to be singled out and studied in themselves. In a sense, they deal with the political dimension of open access (as distinguished from policy).<BR>
