Dear Colleagues,

If your institution or consortium has negotiated a transformative agreement<http://esac-initiative.org/about/transformative-agreements/> with subscription publishers with the aim of growing universal open access to research while containing the escalating costs associated with for-profit journals, we invite you to join us for the 4th Global ESAC Workshop, Transformative Agreements in Practice on 28-29 May 2019 at the Max Planck Digital Library offices in Munich, Germany.

The aim of the workshop is empower our community with deeper knowledge and insight into the workings of transformative agreements, which will, in turn, inform and strengthen our strategies. Building on the consensus achieved at the 14th Berlin Open Access Conference<https://oa2020.org/b14-conference/final-statement/> and the body of data being collected in the ESAC Transformative Agreement Registry<http://esac-initiative.org/about/transformative-agreements/agreement-registry/>, the workshop will comprise activities and focused discussions on these themes:

- Principles of transformative agreements defined

- Evaluation of transformative agreements

- Approaches to publisher negotiations

- Moving forward to the next phase

- Filling the gaps and broadening our network

- Visualizing our individual and global impact

Our objective is to have representation from every institution or consortium currently engaged in a transformative agreement, and participation is limited, so please register your interest in the workshop as soon as possible by email to conferences at mpdl.mpg.de<mailto:conferences at mpdl.mpg.de>.

IMPORTANT! Regardless of whether you, yourself, are able to participate, please make an effort to register your transformative agreements<http://esac-initiative.org/about/transformative-agreements/share/> in the ESAC Registry as soon as possible, as the data collected therein will be analysed and presented in the course of the workshop. Note: even those agreements with non-disclosure clauses can-and should-be registered!

The workshop will be held at the Max Planck Digital Library, Amalienstraße 33, 80799 Munich, Germany. There is no charge for participation, but we ask that participants provide for their own travel and accommodation; a list of hotels will be provided.

Further details will be provided to participants in due course; if you have any queries or suggestions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes,

Kai
