Just as a brief follow-up to Heather's post.
The relation between platform cooperativism and open access - as viewed
in the context of a number of recent collaborative developments in open
access such as the Radical Librarians Collective
(https://rlc.radicallibrarianship.org), the Radical Open Access
Collective (http://radicalopenaccess.disruptivemedia.org.uk), and the
Open Access Publishing Cooperative Study that is ‘bringing together
libraries, journals, societies, presses, funders’ and others to ‘explore
the feasibility of a cooperative alternative in scholarly publishing’
(http://oa-cooperative.org) - was the subject of a talk I gave at the
'Why Are We Not Boycotting Academia.edu?' symposium last December. You
can find a video recording of it here, along with the presentations by
Kathleen Fitzpatrick, David Parry and Pascal Aventurier.
