[GOAL] Re: OASPA Adds Licensing FAQs Page to Information Resources

Claire,

I am delighted that OASPA is taking the lead on clarifying some of the confusion surrounding licensing OA journal articles. I see much confusion among the publishers I examine and analyze.

The two biggest problems I see are 1). Contradictory licensing statements, such as the one shown below, and 2). Individual journal articles that lack any licensing information at all.

I also see publishers that require authors to sign over copyright to the publisher but then license the articles with a CC BY license.

During the review procedure for publishers applying to join OASPA, one of the key requirements is appropriate licensing of published material.  This area can often be the source of the most confusion, particularly for smaller organisations.
