Hélène is right to bring attention to this reaction of French
mathematicians, but alas, once again, the Gold road is conflated with
the author-pay model.

There are two big mistakes that constantly float around open access:

     1. OA is gold OA. This is patently false since the Green Road is as
indispensable as the Gold road, and in some phases of the
movement, it is even more useful. Stevan harnad has rightfully
denounced this mistake on a number of occasions.
     2. The author-pay model is Gold OA. Again patently false. As Peter
Suber has pointed out in his recent book, the majority of OA
journals are without costs to authors submitting and to readers.
