Subject: Space update

Dear Turing community member,

As the success and growth of the Institute continues, we are becoming increasingly aware that some members of the Turing community are at times experiencing challenges with our London space.

Although there is no easy or instant solution there are several ways in which we can all help:

  * A space working group has been set up to explore options and to make recommendations on how we might differently manage our space moving forward. Through your representative please continue to feed your comments into the group. The group aims to ensure the goals of the Institute are supported by an agile office space.

* The current office spaces in the British Library were designed to promote collaborative working. In the past, the 4th floor was considered to be a "quieter working space", however, due to the growing demand for desks, this is harder to maintain. There are a limited number of one-person pods and booths on the 1st and second floors but if you require a particularly quiet space to work alone for a period of time you might like to consider obtaining a Reader Pass so that you can access the British Library's science readings rooms which are adjacent to our 1st floor space. You can easily apply for a pass online by following this link: https://www.bl.uk/help/how-to-get-a-reader-pass<https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bl.uk%2Fhelp%2Fhow-to-get-a-reader-pass&data=01%7C01%7C%7C5d7d6cf36c374d6ec88e08d7a99081e0%7C4a5378f929f44d3ebe89669d03ada9d8%7C0&sdata=8a7uPkkcAjBBj092YQo3zd8xlSKM8I1%2F208Nl4P4A9U%3D&reserved=0>

  * Turing members can also help by ensuring they follow the Institute's clear desk policy so that it is easier for us all to find available desks. Please ensure that all personal items are tidied away when not in use. You can apply for a locker by completing the form on Turing Complete: https://turingcomplete.topdesk.net/locker request<https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fturingcomplete.topdesk.net%2Ftas%2Fpublic%2Fssp%2Fcontent%2Fserviceflow%3Funid%3De32503a989a8476d81991c9afd7eb916&data=01%7C01%7C%7C5d7d6cf36c374d6ec88e08d7a99081e0%7C4a5378f929f44d3ebe89669d03ada9d8%7C0&sdata=Ttjxs6mlXVtFOrKKbw1DG36gMzGxz3sOdxViTbqQUH0%3D&reserved=0>

We appreciate that not being able to resolve these issues straight away may be frustrating at times but, by implementing these small changes, we hope to alleviate some of the tension whilst we work towards finding longer-term solutions that benefit us all.

Please remember to respect each other and your working environment.

Thanks,

Facilities team
