Dear Fellows

Just a reminder of the below engagement for your early career researchers. There were 3 exciting opportunities in yesterday’s Turing bulletin, so do please let relevant researchers know of these. If more senior researchers are interested in these, the Turing asks that they pick a suitable early career researcher from their group/network to be the PI, but support them scientifically in the endeavour. All applications to datastudygroup at turing.ac.uk<mailto:datastudygroup at turing.ac.uk> .

The challenges are:

Subject: Turing Data Study Group – DSG PIs – an opportunity for early career researchers to engage with the Turing Institute

Dear Turing Fellows

The Turing is offering an exciting opportunity for your early career researchers and post-docs colleagues. The Data Study Group (DSG) PI is an opportunity for your colleagues to work with an industrial, government or 3rd sector organisation. They will scope and shape a challenge for the Turing’s DSG<https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.turing.ac.uk%2Fcollaborate-turing%2Fdata-study-groups%2Fget-involved-challenge-owner&data=01%7C01%7C%7C2c00d74444944c636f9508d732bb2106%7C4a5378f929f44d3ebe89669d03ada9d8%7C0&sdata=2av%2BySSjQJZTf9bYQpWLMDuy%2FJV4wN0c%2FqYlSXHkfzY%3D&reserved=0> with potential for continued and expanded follow up work after the event. The Turing will administrate contracts, IT and researchers, and fully support the DSG PI, while their sole focus will be on the scientific questions to be investigated. This is an exceptional opportunity to

  * Build industry connections whilst working alongside challenge owners.
  * Generate projects from loosely defined questions
  * Work at the cross section of industry and academia
  * Be involved in multidisciplinary teams
  * Get involved with the Turing institute

The role is unpaid and will last around 6 months, on average a couple of hours a week (please see guide for a more detailed estimate). Where possible, the Turing will be looking to do fully-fledged follow-on projects with the partnering organisations, with the DSG PI having the first right of refusal to continue their involvement. This can lead to further funding, papers and wider engagements for your home institutions with industry as well as REF-able projects.

We ask Turing Fellows to keep an eye out for these opportunities in the Turing weekly bulletin, and to disseminate with your research associates who might benefit from such an experience. For more information and contact details please visit: https://www.turing.ac.uk/DSGPI<https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.turing.ac.uk%2FDSGPI&data=01%7C01%7C%7C2c00d74444944c636f9508d732bb2106%7C4a5378f929f44d3ebe89669d03ada9d8%7C0&sdata=SKjcN7ov7wApybMVOjjgupnOHsGNTJGI%2Br6ZfRr0mZs%3D&reserved=0>

Best wishes

Susan
