Dear ULMs,
I have been working with Nick Holliman from Newcastle to put together an application to develop a new Interest group at the Turing. The purpose of the Visualisation Turing Interest Group (TIG) is to bring together visualisation research themes across the Turing Institute and partners. The focus of the TIG will be on supporting the creation of a leading research portfolio in novel visualisation principles and demonstrating how visualisation methods developed from these principles can be applied in practice.
I'm writing to you as we would like to approach new members and I would be grateful if you could provide one or two names of academics that you think would like to be part of the TIG. It would be better if they're Fellows but if there are potential members that want to share their expertise with the partnership that would be great too.
The members will be asked to attend a meeting in London every two months to meet with others and share their ideas, there will be opportunities to bid for internal funding to develop pilot projects. The programme directors are very supportive so I imagine that there will be programme funding for some of those projects as well.
We are also hoping to organise a colloquium and invite one or two international leading academics in the next six months.
Our main goal is to develop data visualisation as a core activity at the Turing.
Many thanks,
Patty
