Take a look at:
~/archives/ARCHIVEID/cfg/cfg.d/registration.pl
There's an option 'allow_web_signup' that might do what you want (instead of editing the pins)?

I was wondering if there was a way to modify default pins in the Eprints system.

I am using Eprints 3.2.8 and I need to get rid of the "Create Account" link.
