Hello chaps and chapettes.
SUSU's ego wars elections just happened in case you hadn't noticed (this is one of those times when living under a rock is almost certainly less demanding) - now it's time for ours, which are obviously much cooler and awesomer. ;)
In addition to giving you the ability to "empower students" and all that waffle, being on the committee immediately makes you very popular and good-looking - and it looks awesome on your CV. You'll get to run all the events, win all the sports, and smell like the Old Spice man. The following positions are up for grabs*:
President: The big cheese.
Vice-president: Slightly smaller and less cheesy, but nonetheless important; the president's RAID 1.
Secretary: Takes minutes and behaves like Moneypenny. Daniel Craig not included.
Treasurer: Consistently tight git.
Social secretary: Fun-loving person who reminds everyone else to wash.
Academic secretary: Organises talks by various other big cheeses. You will get lots of free food.
Marketing officer: Like me or Rex. Makes posters, writes emails, generally the most awesome person on the team.
Welfare officer: Your local Beckie Thomas - makes sure all their bros are cool, doesn't patronise those who don't lift.
Sports rep: Researches the dangerous, experimental matter of "fitness".
Webmaster/webmistress: You know what this does.
Gamesmaster/gamesmistress: Understands D&D. Must be at least Lv. 45 to apply.
You can elect yourself now<https://secure.ecs.soton.ac.uk/student/wiki/w/ECSS_elections> for one of the roles - you've got until the end of Sunday. :) make sure you read the linked page carefully, it contains lots of useful information on nominating yourself. You'll need to come along to the AGM as well...
...and what is this AGM, you may well ask - it's the Annual General Meeting where we give you an overview of the year in ECSS, what we've been up to and where all the money's gone - but perhaps most importantly for you, this is where you're going to sway voters. You'll need to give a cool short speech here about your manifesto. The AGM will most likely be next week, from 1-2pm and in Building 32's huge lecture theatre. We'll let you know the date as soon as we've sorted out bookings and timings.
Happy nominating! :)
Doug Thompson
ECSS Marketing Officer (one of two)
*Same positions as last year, without two marketing officers - we'll just need one from now on. 'Proper' position descriptions are available from the 'elect yourself now' link.
