Dear all
Participation in the Southampton Science & Engineering Day on 10 March is a great way to engage the general public with your research.
We can provide some funding for consumables if you would like to contribute an activity that helps explain your research to the general public.
If you are from ORC or Physics & Astronomy, please contact Pearl John (P.John at soton.ac.uk<mailto:P.John at soton.ac.uk>) for advice on how to prepare.
If you are from ECS, please contact Reena Pau (R.Pau at soton.ac.uk<mailto:R.Pau at soton.ac.uk>).
Regards
Michael Buler
Associate Dean, Enterprise and Impact FPSE

Just a quick reminder that the deadline for registering your intent to participate in Southampton Science and Engineering Day (on the 10th March) is the 20th December.
Don’t worry if you don’t know exactly what your activity will look like yet – at this stage we just need to know that you’d like to be involved.
Top line information (such as a brief outline of your activity/idea and which zone it might fit into) can be added by clicking here<https://groupsite.soton.ac.uk/Administration/Science-Festival/Pages/Home.aspx>.
If you would like to be a science busker or work behind the scenes on the day or be part of the wider festival (9th – 18th March) then email festival at soton.ac.uk<mailto:festival at soton.ac.uk> to discuss further.
Don’t forget, we’re aligning with the British Science Week focus of plastic waste in the ocean (a topic that is being discussed widely in the news today). We’re therefore encouraging all activities to avoid the use of single-use plastic where possible. If you would like to host an event as part of the wider festival related to plastic waste then please get in touch.
Additional opportunities:
Sparsholt College – are running a ‘Women Into Technology’ event for Year 9s on Thursday 8th March and are looking for ‘hands on’ activities with interactive technology – preferably the more tech-based side of gaming, virtual reality, coding, security etc. If you would be interesting in taking an activity please get in touch to discuss the opportunity further.
Paultons Park - are looking for some interactive science activities to take place on their Schools & Science Day on Friday 9th March. If you have an activity that you would like to take then please get in touch to discuss the opportunity further.
West Quay – we are looking into the possibility of having one or two interactive science activities taking place in West Quay on Saturday 10th March and Sunday 11th March, to reach an audience who would not necessarily venture up to the University campus. If you would be interested in exhibiting please get in touch to discuss the opportunity further.
If you have any questions or would like to chat about your ideas please email festival at soton.ac.uk<mailto:festival at soton.ac.uk>.
Best wishes,
Emma Flynn
