[Cmi-board] OI Space Incubator - Ordnance Survey Challenge

Dear Richard,

Thanks for this. I’ve ccd a number of my colleagues who may have an interest in being involved with the OI incubator and the specific OS challenge below.

I think we could hit all five points below as they align well with work we already do and the kind of internships we encourage our students to go on.

I can’t make it on the 22nd as I mentioned but I hope some of my colleagues will be able to do so.

Do you have a link to the internship programme? I could not find it on the setsquared website.

Attached is the Ordnance Survey Challenge for the OI Space Incubator that will be launched on 1st March at Venturefest South. As mentioned, I will be giving an overview of the programme on 22nd Feb to Partners and potential partners…as I attempt to onboard more support for the programme.

UoS are already a key partner (via Ann Cooper – Excel Programme) – funding 10 interns for 10 weeks in the Summer to work with the 10 winning project/ start-ups.

I am keen for you and your colleagues to review the OS challenge and think how:

  1.  you might be able to support winners with facilities, tools, academically, PhD fuel, expertise, etc..
  2.  you can encourage the student body …especially Master and PhD students to respond to the challenge. The online application process will open on 1st March and close 90 days later on 31st May.
  3.  you can collaborate with Ordnance Survey on articulating the challenge…and expound possible responses – at a special event in OS Southampton HQ on 18th April – 0900 to 1200 hrs (grateful for feedback on this time slot)
  4.  we possible add this topic/ affiliated topic to our planned ‘Chalk Talk’ series.
  5.  You can encourage students to apply for the 10 internships….good to get top quality talent from your department – the role(s) are now live of MyCareer “UK Space Agency - Incubator Intern”
