[C-IoT Management] Internet of Things in ECS: request for contributions for two upcoming events

Dear all,

There are still some places left at the poster launch event on 26 June. In case you didn't manage to submit an abstract before the end of last week, I will continue to accept them until the end of Wednesday this week (13th).

If you wish for us to arrange and pay for printing of a poster, we will still need this by the end of this week; however if you already have a poster that you can use, that would be fine.

If you know of anyone else in ECS that's interested in IoT, please can you encourage them to submit so that we can get as broad a cross-section of interests as possible.

Please can I remind you about the two calls for abstracts below (one about any aspect of IoT research, the other about IoT security).


1.       If you're an academic, I'd strongly urge you to submit a poster that summarises your activities and interests across IoT; I think these will be key in letting other academics know what it is you do and hence who they should collaborate with on IoT topics. If you don't have time to create a poster, perhaps someone in your team can assist.

2.       If you're a postdoc or PhD student working an on IoT-related project, please consider presenting a poster or demo to the Launch Event (you only need a title and abstract to submit).

3.       If you have interests in IoT security, please consider requesting a talk (academics) or poster/demo (anyone) for the second event.

Note, the deadline for abstracts is 08 June (this Friday).

These events are designed to help build the IoT community within ECS, and you're part of that!

Subject: IoT speakers, posters and demos requested for two upcoming events

Dear ECS research staff and students,

The recently formed ECS Centre for Internet of Things and Pervasive Systems (C-IoT) is holding two launch events around the end of this month. We are seeking presenters, posters and demos for both: if you have research interests in IoT, please keep reading. Note, the submission deadline for abstracts is 08 June.

1) C-IoT Launch Event | 26 June from 14:00-16:00
This event will bring together researchers with an interest in IoT from across ECS, to increase awareness of ongoing activities and to fuel future collaboration and engagement.

*         The primary format of the event is posters: if you're a member of academic staff, we welcome a poster on your (and your team's) IoT research interests; if you're a PhD student or postdoc, we welcome a poster on your research project.

*         To submit an abstract, please complete the short form at https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=-XhTSvQpPk2-iWadA62p2E9DViO7AyJAp_i6H9bgxeBUMUVLOUQwN1NJU1MwVDkwUEk5V0ZRTVBDTS4u. *         The submission deadline is Friday 08 June. You will be notified on Monday 11 June whether or not we can accommodate your poster/demo and, if we can, you will have until Friday 15 June to submit your poster (the Centre will pay for and arrange printing).

*         If you do not have anything to present, but would like to attend to get a feel for IoT research in ECS, please make a note of the date in your calendar. Further details will be circulated nearer the time.

2) C-IoT Afternoon on IoT Security | 03 July from 14:00-16:30
This event will reach beyond ECS, with speakers and attendees from other faculties and industry. This first event in a series will focus on aspects of IoT Security.

*         The event will be a series of short talks, supplemented by a small number of relevant posters and demos.

*         If you are a member of academic staff, and are interested in giving a 10-minute talk, please drop me an email at gvm at ecs.soton.ac.uk<mailto:gvm at ecs.soton.ac.uk>
