<div><p class=""><span lang="EN-US">Another good news open access story.<u></u><u></u></span></p><p class=""><span lang="EN-US"></span></p><p class=""><span lang="EN-US">Recently, the institutional repository at Queensland University of Technology (<a href="http://eprints.qut.edu.au/" target="_blank">QUT ePrints</a>) reached a major milestone when a full-text journal article became the <a href="http://eprints.qut.edu.au/statistics/" target="_blank">10 millionth download</a>. Nearly ten years ago (in September 2003), QUT implemented the World’s first institution-wide open access <a href="http://www.mopp.qut.edu.au/F/F_01_03.jsp" target="_blank">mandate</a> . Since then, the proportion of the University’s annual research output deposited as full-text has risen to over 75% (for 2012 publications). <u></u><u></u></span></p>
<p class=""><span lang="EN-US"></span></p><p class=""><span lang="EN-US">Today, there are 25,681 full-text publications in the repository and 22,315 of them (86%) are open access. The average number of documents downloaded each month is over 200,000. Over 97% of the downloads are from an external IP address. Many of the embargoed full-texts can be accessed via a ‘Request Copy’ feature (see: <a href="http://eprints.qut.edu.au/54602/" target="_blank"><span style="color:windowtext;text-decoration:none"> </span>http://eprints.qut.edu.au/55328/</a>).<u></u><u></u></span></p>
<p class=""><span lang="EN-US"></span></p><p class=""><span lang="EN-US">QUT ePrints was the top ranked Institutional Repository in Australia and 14<sup>th</sup> in the world in the latest biannual <a href="http://repositories.webometrics.info/en/top_Inst" target="_blank">Ranking Web of Repositories</a>.<u></u><u></u></span></p>

This event is an opportunity to take stock of these developments and to discuss the strategic advantages they bring to the research sector moving forward. <u></u><u></u></span></p>
<p class="" style="margin-left:36pt;background:none repeat scroll 0% 0% white"><span lang="EN-NZ">The conference theme <b><i>Discovery, Impact and Innovation</i></b> examines the transition to Open Access and looks ahead, to how these emerging systems of scholarly communication can maximise research impact and help realise the full benefits of public research worldwide. <u></u><u></u></span></p>
<p class="" style="margin-left:36pt"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif""></span></p><p class="" style="margin-left:36pt"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">The program includes speakers from the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia, as well as a number of thematic sessions focusing on issues such as advocacy, alternative metrics, open data and open access publishing.<u></u><u></u></span></p>
