conference in Beijing, </span><font color="#000000"><span lang="en-GB">Li
Jinghai, Vice president of </span></font><font color="#000000"><span lang="en-GB">Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)</span></font><font color="#000000"><span lang="en-GB">,
has announced that CAS would support the OA movement in China,</span></font><font color="#ff0000"><span lang="en-GB">
</span></font><span lang="en-GB">and </span><span lang="en-GB">Mr.
Pan Jiaofeng</span><span lang="en-GB">,</span><span lang="en-GB">
Vice Secretary-General of CAS confirmed that the CAS, which adopted an OA policy in October 2010</span><span lang="en-GB">,</span><span lang="en-GB">
has "an ethical responsibility to make the information produced
by researchers available to the public, which is paying for the
research" and </span><span lang="en-GB">has </span><span lang="en-GB">announced
that 63 CAS institutes in 22 Chinese cities now have OA
repositories</span><span lang="en-GB">. There is</span><span lang="en-US"> also a CAS IR grid</span>: <a href="http://www.irgrid.cas.cn/" target="_blank">http://www.irgrid.cas.cn/</a>. <span lang="en-GB"><br><br>CAS also:</span><ul>
<li><p style="margin-bottom:0in">
Actively promote public access to publicly funded research papers, by encouraging CAS researchers to
deposit their research papers into institutional repositories
and to provide open access;</p>
</li><li><p style="margin-bottom:0in">Actively promote open access
publishing, by supporting CAS authors to publish in
important OA journals and by recommending national funding agencies
to cover APCs from research funds for Chinese authors;</p>
</li><li><p style="margin-bottom:0in">Promote open publishing of CAS
journals, and provide support;</p>
</li><li><p style="margin-bottom:0in">Support national policies on public access to publicly funded research papers and open access
publishing of publicly funded (or partially publicly funded) STM
journals;</p>
</li><li><p style="margin-bottom:0in">Actively support open access
initiatives and programs of international STM communities, including
supporting SCOAP3 initiative.</p>
