Dear Colleagues,<br>on suggestion of a friend (she is on the list), I forward you a sequence of messages from myself to DOAJ and replies.<br><br>I am publish an OA journal and assume I do the best for our readers, authors, ... the scientific community. I expected our journal to get the SPARC seal on the DOAJ site ... I imagined it as a "medal of honour" but I was really disappointed by the DOAJ reply to my request.<br><br>There might be a cultural problem ... This is the most accommodating of licenses offered. Recommended for maximum dissemination and use of licensed materials.<br>and found it is not applicable to us for we defend our authors (and our readers) and do not want their work to be re-used without their permission/agreement if it is for a commercial use <br>· for we want to leave them individually to make the decision whether they agree or not their work is re-used by people who will make money on it <br>· for we want them to eventually receive royalties if their work is to be re-used commercially <br>I also found it not applicable for I cannot change the Licence from one day to the other without contacting all the authors of the papers published from 2002 to date and let them know and get their individual agreements !<br><br>I found that in your "Earth Sciences" directory the sole journals to get the seal are the Copernicus journals /// therefore may be we don't need the seal as we shall never be an EGU journal ///<br><br>In any case I can see there is a major cultural problem there (between Northern Europe-North America and the rest of the world) and in my opinion you will probably not get any "Latin" journals getting this seal in the forthcoming years. I am the administrator of Geoscience e-journals (http://paleopolis.rediris.es/geosciences/) and so far I have encourage our members to join DOAJ, get their contents available in it, ...
