OPEN WEBCASTING SYSTEM FOR KNOWLEDGE DISSEMINATION
Innovative Webcasting of Traditional Lectures: openEyA

Trieste, Italy-- The ICTP Science Dissemination Unit (SDU) is pleased to
announce the release of an innovative automated recording system:
openEyA, which integrates different technologies under free Ubuntu Linux
OS. The project's goal is to automate as much as possible the production
and post-production processes of academic webcasting in order to reduce
costs. openEyA satisfies all these requirements in a way that has yet no
similar. It can be downloaded for educational purposes from:

http://www.openEyA.org

The automated audio-video-slides synchronization is done in few
minutes and recordings can be saved as zip files. The system is
based on cost-effective hardware.

OpenEyA allows to archive and share traditional (scientific) lectures and
talks carried out using, e.g., classroom chalkboards and/or using digital
presentations (PPT, PDF, animations, etc). The system output is a webpage
with synchronized:
- video in Flash format (to see whatever happens in front of
a
classroom)
- high resolution digital photos with a zoom to highlight
specific areas of the classroom podium, blackboard
and
projector screen -if any and
- classroom audio (without the need for the lecturer to wear
a
microphone).

We aim to help bridging the knowledge divide in developing
countries.
