BMJ Group collaborates with American Diabetes Association to launch new
title
Open access title to support medical advances in the field through free,
timely research
International medical publisher, BMJ Group, has teamed up with the
American Diabetes Association to publish an open access, online only
journal.
The new title, which will become the official open access publication of
the Association, will formally launch in the Spring, as BMJ Open Diabetes
Research & Care.
Content will cover all aspects of basic and clinical research in type 1
and type 2 diabetes, and associated complications. All material will be
subject to rigorous peer review.
Open access is increasingly becoming common practice in scholarship and
research. This format will offer clinicians and researchers free and rapid
access to the latest original research on the treatment and care of the
disease, the prevalence of which has soared in recent decades.
In 2011, the numbers of people with diabetes around the globe reached 366
million, according to data from the International Diabetes Federation, and
the World Health Organization estimates that the annual death toll from
the disease will increase by two thirds between 2008 and 2030.
Commenting on the announcement of the new title, BMJ Group Publishing
Director, Peter Ashman, said: ?The Association is leading the global fight
against diabetes and we are very proud that they have chosen to
collaborate with the BMJ Group to launch their latest official
publication, which will be an important addition to scientific and medical
publishing.?
?BMJ Group?s interest in improving healthcare outcomes, and our mission to
prevent and cure diabetes make a perfect foundation for a new journal,?
said Robert Ratner, Chief Scientific & Medical Officer, American Diabetes
Association.
