*SfE and ESE announce the launch of Endocrine Connections – a new Open
Access biomedical journal*
Today the Society for Endocrinology (SfE) and the European Society of
Endocrinology (ESE) announced the forthcoming launch of Endocrine
Connections – a new Open Access journal for the biomedical community. The
journal is a joint venture between the two societies, to be published by
BioScientifica.
“We believe the time is now right for a new kind of journal that will help
stimulate cross‐discipline collaboration and give our authors the highest
possible visibility for their work,” commented Leon Heward‐Mills, Chief
Executive at SfE. “We already serve the core endocrinology community well
with our established portfolio of journals, but as barriers between
disciplines become increasingly blurred, we want to offer authors a new way
to reach a much broader readership than traditional subscription‐based
journals can generally offer. We believe that Endocrine Connections is
ideally placed to do this.”
Endocrine Connections will be led by Dr Jens Sandahl Christiansen,
Professor of Medicine at the University of Aarhus, and consultant in the
department of medicine at Aarhus University Hospital. A world‐class
Editorial board is currently being recruited. The journal will focus on
publishing articles that have relevance across the many disciplines that
intersect with endocrinology. Its broad scope encompasses metabolism,
obesity, diabetes, hormones, reproduction and bone disorders.
“Our ambition is for Endocrine Connections to become a premier journal in
the field with global impact,” said Dr Christiansen. “We are applying the
very highest quality standards to our peer review and publishing processes.
We are excited to have the opportunity to help our authors connect with
researchers in a wide range of fields and increase the speed of the
cross‐fertilization of ideas in biomedicine. I believe it is at the
intersection of disciplines that many of the next breakthrough discoveries
will be made.”
Endocrine Connections opens for submissions in March 2012. Please visit our
