We cordially invite individuals, academic libraries, universities, and other
organizations involved in disseminating and archiving electronic theses and
dissertations (ETDs) to become members of the NDLTD (http://www.ndltd.org/).
Membership will connect you to a growing community dedicated to improving
access to scholarly works. You can also subscribe to the NDLTD email list to
join our ongoing discussions.

*Benefits of membership include:*
Support for harvesting your institution’s ETDs into the NDLTD Union Catalog,
thereby increasing their visibility
Support for developing a long-term preservation strategy through the NDLTD’s
partnership with the MetaArchive Cooperative
Eligibility for NDLTD ETD awards
Eligibility to serve on NDLTD committees and working groups
Eligibility for a mentoring program
Discounts on exhibits and displays at annual symposia
Conference registration fee discounts for selected events

*Membership Types:*

Individual Membership: for anyone interested in supporting the goals of the
NDLTD. Annual dues: $25.

Institutional Membership:  for a single degree-granting institution or a
supporting organization, such as a library, involved in disseminating and
archiving ETDs. Annual dues: $300.

*Special Discounts:*

Consortia or multi-campus university systems: for organizations that want to
offer NDLTD Institutional Membership as a benefit to their own members. The
annual membership dues for a consortium are $300 plus $150 per member of the
consortium. For example, a consortium of ten libraries would pay: $300 + 10
x $150 = $1800.

*Developing Nations*: for organizations from countries not categorized under
Very High or High Human Development in the most recent United Nations Human
Development Report. The annual dues for these organizations are one-third of
regular dues. Subject to approval from the NDLTD Board of Directors, annual
dues may be waived for some organizations in developing nations.

*All new-joining institutions who send a member to ETD 2011 will get free
membership for a year.*

ETD2011 is an international symposium and gathering of current and future
researchers and practitioners in the area of Electronic Theses and
Dissertations. ETD2011 will provide delegates with the unique opportunity to
network, share experiences and discuss current good practices from around
the world, enabling researchers and practitioners to chart a future course.

ETD2011 is the latest in a series of international conferences of the
Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD). The expected
audience will include advocates, practitioners, researchers and students
working in the area of electronic theses and dissertations and, more
broadly, open access and digital repositories.  The conference is hosted in
South Africa by the SA National Research Foundation, University of Cape Town
and Stellenbosch University.  ETD2011 will provide local and international
attendees with the opportunity to exchange ideas and enrich their respective
programmes, bridging the infamous north-south divide.

The theme of ETD2011 is: "From Islands to Global Interconnectedness", in the
spirit of the African philosophical notion that we are who we are because of
others. Open Access repositories, and ETD programmes in particular, have
reached a stage of widespread acceptance around the world.  Many attendees
will come from institutions where ETD programmes already exist or are
imminent.  It is therefore appropriate that we now look to the development
of relationships among institutions to, firstly, support one another at the
level of policy and advocacy, secondly, provide users with services that
span institutional and regional boundaries and, lastly, address global
problems such as preservation by means of collaboration.

The conference programme will include technical paper sessions, plenary
keynote addresses, poster presentations, panels, tutorials and workshops --
to cater for a broad audience of participants.

We invite you to submit a paper, poster or panel or workshop proposal for
ETD2011.

*Topics*

Submissions are encouraged in, but not restricted to, the following areas:
- dataset curation
- digital libraries
- digital/institutional repositories
- digitization
- graduate education
- intellectual property, copyright and publishing
- interoperability and union collections
- metadata standards
- multimedia ETDs
- non-traditional theses, such as creative works
- national/regional collaborations
- policies for ETD programmes
- preservation
- privacy
- production of ETDs
- statistics and reporting
- workflows and processes

*Submissions*

For papers, posters and workshop and panel proposals, submit an abstract of
up to 500 words in a PDF or plain text document.  Clearly indicate the
authors, title and format (paper/poster/panel/workshop).  For papers and
posters, ensure that you outline the aims/objectives, methods, results and
conclusions in your abstract.  For workshops and panels, indicate the
aims/objectives, programme and intended audience.

All papers will be presented in the main sessions of the conference.

All authors of accepted paper abstracts will be invited to submit full
papers for peer-review prior to publication.  This is optional.  If a paper
passes the peer-review, it may be published as a "peer-reviewed" paper; if a
paper does not pass the peer-review, it may be published as a "regular"
paper.  Authors who choose not to submit their papers for peer-review may
have their papers published as "regular" papers in the proceedings.

Accepted posters will be viewable in dedicated poster sessions and will be
on display throughout the conference.  Posters will also be archived
electronically.

Workshops will be held after the main conference to explore specialised
topics in detail and may be focused on any aspect of significant interest to
the community.  Proposers of successful workshops will be responsible for
the content of those workshops.

Panels will be interspersed with the paper sessions.  Proposers of
successful panels will be responsible for the content/speakers of those
panels.

Until now, NDLTD had a fixed membership year, running from March 1st until
the end of February. The new system gives us the flexibility to let members
renew at the anniversary of their initial registration.
