Dear colleagues,
You are cordially invited to the ALCTS Scholarly Communications Interest
Group Panel Discussion at the ALA Midwinter Meeting:
Topic: Hybrid Journals: Transition to Full Open Access or Here to Stay?
Date: Saturday, January 8, 2011
Time: 1:30pm - 3:30pm
Location: Room 23C, San Diego Convention Centre (SDCC)
It is now common that subscription-based journals provide the "author pays"
option for authors to publish their research as open access articles. What
determines the pricing of the "author pays" option and how is this hybrid
model faring? Four panelists will discuss the development, perceptions, and
future of the hybrid model of journal publishing from different
perspectives. The moderator and panelists are:
Moderator:
Judy Luther, President, Informed Strategies
Panelists:
+ Philip Bourne, Professor of Pharmacology, University of California San
Diego
+ Charles Eckman, University Librarian & Dean of Library Services, Simon
Fraser University, Canada
+ Patricia Hudson, Senior Marketing Manager, Oxford Journals, Oxford
University Press
+ Dan Morgan, Executive Publisher, Psychology & Cognitive Science, Elsevier
An open forum will follow the panelists' presentations. Participants are
welcome to raise questions, exchange ideas, and explore possibilities for
scholarly publishing. Please join us for a constructive and
thought-provoking conversation on Jan. 8th!
