The monograph "Open access in Southern European countries" presents the
landscape of open access initiatives and development in Southern
European countries: France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Turkey.
These countries have special characteristics: they use languages that
have a long tradition but are not the usual channel for scientific
communication, they do not have a powerful publishing industry, or they
spend a small percentage of GDP on research and scientific data
acquisition.

This report is addressed especially to authorities and academic
managers, to make them aware of the importance of encouraging actions to
promote open access to science, to publishers, especially those of the
public sector, to academics, and to information science and management
professionals.

The book is the result of the meeting we had in Granada in May 2010
which concluded with the/ Alhambra Declaration/.
Please find attached the press release with more details about its
contents. The book can be freely download full or by chapters.
