*IOP Publishing press release *
Thursday 4 November – Immediate release
IOP Publishing and the* *International Union for Pure and Applied Physics
(IUPAP) Commission on Computational Physics have today signed a five-year
framework agreement for publishing open-access conference proceedings.
This is the first formal publishing agreement of its kind between IOP and
IUPAP and will mean that the proceedings of the annual Conference on
Computational Physics will* *be published as volumes within the open access
Journal of Physics: Conference Series (JPCS).
Professor James Gubernatis of the Commission said “We selected JPCS to help
our conference organizers reduce time and administrative effort to meet the
policies of IUPAP with regard to publishing accessible proceedings. Working
with JPCS also assists them in predicting their costs, while offering the
flexibility to meet special needs.”
Graham Douglas, Senior Publisher, said “We are delighted that IOP
Publishing’s open-access proceedings journal has been recognized by the
IUPAP as the most effective way to disseminate their proceedings. We look
forward to a highly successful collaboration between our two societies, and
to publications that will be of long-lasting value to physics communities
worldwide.”
Launched in 2004, JPCS is a fully open-access proceedings journal which
covers the entire spectrum of physics research, publishing more than 60
proceedings per year. Its rapid growth and adoption by the international
physics community is reflected in more than 150,000 article downloads every
month. Authors retain the copyright of their proceedings papers.
The new arrangement comes into effect immediately and the proceeding of the
October 2011 event in Gatlinburg, TN USA will be the first to be published
in JPCS.

*IUPAP*
IUPAP is the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics, which brings
together the physics communities in 48 member countries to assist in the
worldwide development of physics, to foster international cooperation in
physics, and to help in the application of physics toward solving problems
of concern to humanity.
The Computational Physics (C20) commission was founded by the IUPAP in 1996,
with mandate of promoting the exchange of information and views among the
members of the international community of physicists in the area of
computational studies of problems originating in or relevant to physics.
*IOP Publishing*
IOP Publishing provides publications through which leading-edge scientific
research is distributed worldwide. IOP Publishing is central to the
Institute of Physics (IOP), a not-for-profit society. Any financial surplus
earned by IOP Publishing goes to support science through the activities of
IOP.
Beyond our traditional journals programme, we make high-value scientific
information easily accessible through an ever-evolving portfolio of
community websites, magazines, conference proceedings and a multitude of
electronic services. Focused on making the most of new technologies, we’re
continually improving our electronic interfaces to make it easier for
researchers to find exactly what they need, when they need it, in the format
that suits them best. Go to
