[BOAI] ANU policies on open access

 Dear all,



The Australian National University, in recognition of Open Access Week, has
implemented four new policies relating to open access.  These policies have
gone through the development, consultation process and been approved by the
Research and Education Committees and approval from the Chancelry.



The ANU Research repository http://research.anu.edu.au/access is a
University-wide repository for all scholarly works past and present of ANU
members.  What can be deposited and who can deposit are contained in the
Guidelines: Depositing Scholarly Work to the ANU Research repository:

 The
University is currently consolidating the material in the previous version
of the repository to incorporate it into the updated ANU Research
repository. We are also about to upgrade to the latest version of DSpace.



The Policy: Intellectual Property
http://policies.anu.edu.au/policies/intellectual_property/policy  states
that members of the University must provide a copy of their work to the
University when it is ready for publication, and the University will check
copyright compliance and able to make the work publicly available.

“Terms of Publication:  Open Access

As soon as it is appropriate to do so, you must deposit a copy of a final
accepted version of a peer-reviewed Scholarly Work (not the publisher's PDF)
at http://research.anu.edu.au/access


The University will check for the Publisher's policies regarding copyright
compliance. When this is permitted by the Publisher the deposited work will
be displayed through ANU Research, to be discovered and presented online by
search engines. Provisions exist to allow Members, for valid reasons, to
restrict open publication in this way.  If necessary, the University may
contact you for a publishable version if the version provided cannot be
published by the University under the Publisher's policies.”



The University’s “Position Statement on Open Access” is contained as a
preface to the new Code of Practice for Scholarly Publication and
Dissemination at ANU

It states, “The University recognises that researchers are best placed to
choose the publication and dissemination option for their work. It urges
members of the scholarly community to subsequently make their work available
in an open access format.”



The Code states “The University encourages authors to make the Accepted
Version of their work available through open access after it has been peer
reviewed and accepted by their outlet of choice.”



These policies were all added to ROARMAP on Monday in celebration of Open
Access Week.
