ANNOUNCEMENT & CALL FOR PAPERS AND POSTERS on “OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE SYSTEMS
CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES”

INTRODUCTION
Continuous capacity development and awareness programmes are necessary to
achieve the objective of transforming the novice into IT enabled citizens of
tomorrow in a cost effective and sustainable way to suit need of diverse
stakeholders in inclusive knowledge society. The success of different
conferences and workshops especially from 2005 by the Department on
various recent themes like Digital Library initiatives, Open Access, web
resources, Application Digital Library software etc has encouraged and
motivated us in partnership with Department of IT in stimulating a forum
for different professionals to share their knowledge, experience and wisdom.
The conference will focus on adoption, implementation and utilization of
Open Source Software Systems in e-learning, e-governance in
knowledge based society to enable an effective reach and connectivity
between citizen and government and government to citizen (C2Z&Z2C). We
invite you all to submit your research paper.

management software, server operating systems, embedded systems (such as
secure gateways and network attached storage,), ‘middleware’ systems
(Allowing communications between different systems)

Developing nations and open source, open source and India, Breaking the myth

Linux, Mozilla, Debian, Apache, LAMP, Mysql, AJAX.

Algorithms and adoption of new innovative techniques

GUIDELINES FOR PAPER SUBMISSION
The papers should be in English language of original research or survey or
innovative work, or a case study, not already submitted to
any journal / conference for publication or presentation.
The submitted paper should not exceed more than 5,000 words must include an
abstract (not more than 150 words), keywords (not more than ten) and
affiliation of the author with email Id.
Follow APA style for citations and references. For further guidance please
visit www.apastyle.org
The paper / poster should be sent to any of the coordinators preferably in
word format and tables, diagrams as a separate file to
osss2010 at uok.edu.in or osss2010 at kashmiruniversity.ac.in
The poster details need to be sent in soft format and the contributors
should bring printed page(s) of the poster, mountable on the boards provided
for the purpose by organisers. The Standard size should be 24X24 inches of
each page/poster.
TUTORIALS
Tutorials will be held for special Software and applications in different
sectors of Government and Non government areas (depending
upon number of participants in each Tutorial).The tentative tutorials under
consideration of organisers are:
- Bhartiya Open source software (BOSS) (Government of India, Ministry of
Communications and IT)
- Course Management software (For Schools and Colleges)
- Embedded Systems and Secure Gateways.(For network and automation personnel
in different corporate and other institutions)
- Institutional Repositories/ Digital Libraries.(for information, museums,
archives etc. personnel)
PARTICIPANTS
The seminar is focused to different stakeholders of diverse fields (like
Government bodies in delivering e- governance, IT Institutions
and organisations, corporate houses, Media, Health professionals,
Engineering Faculty, Education and Information Science Professionals). This
will go long way in sensitizing people associated directly or indirectly
with software development, Application, design, delivery and use both in
government and non-government sectors.
REGISTRATION
Registration of Delegates & Authors starts from First August, 2010
Registration fee for Delegates and participants Rs. 1,500.00
Registration fee (Contributors only) Rs. 500.00
Registration for Tutorial (Additional) Rs. 1,000.00
NOTE: Sponsorships for tutorials, special sessions are also invited from
NGOS, Corporate Houses and Societies etc.
ACCOMMODATION
In view of limited accommodation available in the campus, organisers, on
request, can reserve accommodation for participants in nearby Guest Houses/
Hotels on reasonable rates on first come basis. The tentative tariffs are
given below for
convenience of participants:
a) Guest House: Tariff Rs 500-Rs 800.00. (Single/Share basis) (3Kms from
venue)
b) A class Hotel: Tariff Rs 1000.00--Rs1500.00 (Single/Share basis)
(3-7kms from venue)
c) Deluxe Hotel: Tariff Rs 2, 000.--3,000. (Single or Share basis)
